MOVIE REVIEW: The Accused

RESPECT and SELF CONTROL.

No one ever asks for it and there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE to justify a rape. RAPE IS A VIOLENT ACT, A CRIMINAL ACT against a person’s will.

accused

This is very timely with the recent HijaAko issue that is trending. I also just found out that this movie is based on an ACTUAL EVENT – the case of Cheryl Araujo!!

No matter how Sarah is dressed and how she behaved dancing in the bar, it does not justify the three men who raped her and it does not give the other men in the bar the right to encourage and cheer on the disrespectful act.

No one even fucking bothered to stop the fucking violence that is happening right before their eyes. It was so difficult to watch. I was cringing and felt disrespected too. I cannot even imagine how it is to be in Sarah’s position or Araujo! This factor of the movie is equally important. It’s a good way to educate other people. You are an accessory to the crime.

It is important to speak up, do something and act to protect those that are being abused and assaulted. You are equally responsible if you don’t do something.

What’s your stand on this issue? Will you recommend watching this movie?

MOVIE REVIEW: The Negotiator

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE?

nego

A crime negotiator, considered the best in his field was framed of corruption and murder of his partner. Now he, planned for a hostage environment in order to find out the truth.

All throughout the hostage, I thought it was really Niebaum! The movie has a way of sticking out a certain character to mislead you and there were a lot. The chief was being unsupportive, so I also thought he was involved among others.

Overall, I liked the movie and it’s recommendable. ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: Crawl

Did you ever imagine your house full of Alligators?

Crawl

I don’t know how to swim! How will I ever survive? Haha. BUT! BUT, I learned a new trick which I have yet to confirm! and that is, DON’T MOVE. As long as there are no vibrations or no movements, then they will swim past you. Is that true?

Anyway, there were a handful of DO NOT EVEN BREATHE moments and I may have screamed out of shock three times  but the movie was not really gut wrenching the whole time. It’s the type of family movie on a Friday Night gathered in one room eating popcorn or chips. ❤ But it’s also something I would play in the background while I’m doing something else. Overall, okay but not outstanding.

Have you seen this movie? How many times did you scream? 😛

Let me know. 😀 and please subscribe to my blog. ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: Runaway Jury

Trials are too important to be left up to juries

RUNAWAY

First of all, I didn’t know that there’s a business operation based solely on the careful selection of a jury! Two opposing lawyers will battle it out in court proving that the defendant is innocent or that the defendant is guilty. But the mere study and cautious selection of the right type of jury can sway, make or break your case.

Two, have you seen Meet the Fockers? I cannot really picture him as a serious lawyer. 😛 Three, I salute Easter in the movie of how he can silently influence the other jurors. Four, the real action I think is not really inside the court room (as I would have wanted) but rather the silent manipulation happens outside.

Overall, the novel turned movie is okay.  Though it’s not something I would recommend or watch again.

Who of you has seen the movie? Did you like it?

MOVIE REVIEW: Taking Lives

I’m carrying a baby whose father is a serial killer.

taking-lives-2004 (1)

IMDB: An FBI profiler is called in by French Canadian police to catch a serial killer who takes on the identity of each new victim.

In my opinion, both Jolie and Ethan did an amazing job in this movie. I am now picturing Ethan as this psycho gruesome killer every time I see his face or maybe until after I see another movie where he isn’t the bad guy. 😛 There’s this part which I wish to unsee – the one in the elevator. Eeekk. Now I know what every man sees in Angelina. She was definitely hot in this movie. ❤

And, BTW, hats off to that ending! I’m not going to spoil any further but I was stringed along. Must watch. ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: The Bone Collector

Imagine your life in the hands of a quadriplegic ex-cop.

The-Bone-Collector-2-1280x720

IMDB: A quadriplegic ex-homicide detective and his partner try to track down a serial killer who is terrorizing New York City.

This all out gruesome murder stemmed from an opinion that was wrongfully accepted by an individual. But this same individual ended up being in prison, and in verbatim, human toilet – which caused him to despise our dear old genius Rhyme.

One thing I also noticed — is how technologically advanced they were back then. I did not expect a computer that can already understand human instructions and a bed / slash computer system that does everything for rhyme in just 1 button.

My husband actually caught on the perpetrator at the beginning in which I replied, Nahhh. But turns out, he was right! Haha.

Overall movie is good without the book comparison. I haven’t read it. But yes, yes. This may be an old film but it is worth watching! ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: The Fugitive

What would you do if you were being accused of killing your own spouse?

harrison-ford-the-fugitive-warner-bros

IMDB: Dr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt led by a seasoned U.S. Marshal.

To be honest, I was interested in watching The Fugitive because I thought there will be some bad ass court scene. When you see Harrison Ford, you’d know in an instant there will be some action scenes. It’s in his face and character already, his persona.

For the first hour of the movie, I got fooled. All the while, I was thinking that there are still some good, honest people and loyal friends in the world — this, being Dr. Nichols. I was actually surprised because he seemed to be offering a helping hand genuinely. Little did I know, it was that bastard’s fault. Also, the movie — like any other mmovie with policce, crime scenes proved that NYPD, FBI or any police are the last ones at the scene, last ones to solve the crime. Dr. Kimble, persistent to get to the bottom of the truth, was able to solve the crime without the help of the police. Remember when the partner of Gerard said, ‘Does this guy ever quit?’. 😛 Haha.

It’s worth watching! Tommy Lee is my favorite in this movie. ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: The Fracture

IMDB: An attorney intending on climbing the career ladder toward success finds an unlikely opponent in a manipulative criminal he is trying to prosecute.

rf5j1avHtvLkVnBLdGmqh1LbIN0

First of all, WHAT A SNEAKY OLD BASTARD! Huh?

Spoiler: Ted is a rich engineer who shoots his wife for having an affair. The police (who has been screwing his wife) arrived at the scene. Ted confesses and he hands him the gun. They have the murderer, they have the weapon, they have a confession. It seems like a very easy case that was passed on to be handled by Beachum. But as if Ted planned everything, there are a couple of mind games along the way. What are those conflicts? Ted wanted to be his own lawyer. The weapon that was handed to the police is not the same one that killed the victim. The confession is inadmissible because the police that he confessed to is the same one his wife is having an affair with. In the end? Ted was handed freedom. OR NOT. Watch the movie for the final twist!

Salute to Ted for learning how the justice system works and making it work for him! His mischievous grin gives away his evil plot. How can Beachum not be suspicious that Ted wanted to represent himself? That’s a red flag. Ain’t it?

‘If you look closely enough, you’ll find that everything has a weak spot where it can break, sooner or later. — You looking for mine? — I’ve already found yours. — What is it? — You’re a winner, Willy. ” —— I’m not quite sure if I interpreted it correctly. But I think this is where the moral conflict comes in. As a winner, he will do anything to convict the murderer. But there really is no evidence. So beachum was struggling whether to manipulate the evidence & break the law to win the case or fail.

It’s definitely a movie you’ll watch until the end. You’ll just be so curious as to how he devised to get away with killing his own beloved wife.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Banker

IMDB: In the 1960s two African-American entrepreneurs hire a working-class white man to pretend to be the head of their business empire while they pose as a janitor and chauffeur.

1200x630

Based on true story, these 2 black men decided to fight the racial ceiling the society around them built.

Growing up, Garrett was taught not to dream big and that there are limitations to what they can achieve and what black men deserves – a life of servitude. Refusing to believe that his life is limited to what has been told to him, he educated himself. He listened to how white men runs their business, listened to conversations, eavesdrop on businessmen & observed how successful people thinks and acts.

Let’s give it to Garrett huh! He dreams the impossible and is firm on his principles. I also admire his tenacity to break the racial ceiling and for not giving up even when there were a lot of closed doors on the way. Remember what Steve Jobs said? People who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. If you’ve watched the film, the first building owner laughed at his idea, bankers and even Joe at first thought that his idea ridiculous. But it was his strong desire and firm belief that made it all happen.

Both Bernard and Joe fought against  this prejudice that only white men can be successful, only white men can own a building, only white men can live on posh neighborhoods, only white men can book an appointment, only white men can be granted a loan and the likes.

With this notion in mind, they hire a white man, Matt to be the face of their business so they can get their foot in the door in what once was an area they cannot enter. The relationship was going great. Matt learns a lot about the business while Bernard and Joe gathers wealth with the help of Matt. Although, relationship turns sour in the end when they were caught.

I do understand the ambition of Matt to become a business owner himself, I do. Everyone wants that. However, I also do think that he’s not ripe enough to run the business on his own which proved to be true when he failed to review the contracts.

It’s sick. right? How awfully poisoned the society was before with regards to color discrimination. It’s infuriating to be called dumb just because of the color of your skin. Remember Matt’s comment when he was being investigated? (I’m sure the janitor will not understand). Sickening, I know.

Apart from that, the film also shone the light on business and wealth building. We all learned this in class. Capital is king and it was repeated all through out the movie, and is actually one of the first things that Bernard discussed with Joe (having the capital). Additionally, it’s also admirable that Bernard and Joe is not only fighting the racism for their own good but they also want to uplift the whole black community by giving them loans as an opportunity for them to better their lives and achieve what they call the American Dream.

It’s sad that they are seen as con-artists or law breakers when they in fact are not doing anything illegal. They just made it appear that Matt, the white man is the head of the business and is running on his own while the two black men, the real brains of the business were forced to hide behind mops and wheels.

It’s a good movie to watch! Recommend me some? ❤

TV SHOW REVIEW: The Bodyguard

Wikipedia: ‘The series is set around the fictional character of Police Sergeant David Budd, a heroic British Army war veteran suffering from PTSD,  who is now working as a specialist protection officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch of London’s Police Sevice. He is assigned to protect the ambitious Home Secretary, Julia Montague, whose politics stand for everything he despises.’

You know what makes me keep watching? I still don’t know who the bad guy is! ❤ … UNTIL NOW.

And yes, I have been watching Netflix non stop. 😀

TV SHOW REVIEW: Santa Clarita Diet

Wikipedia: ‘Joel and Sheila Hammond are everyday suburban real estate agents in Santa Clarita. The couple face a series of obstacles when Sheila has a physical transformation into a zombie and starts craving human flesh. With Joel and the family trying to help Sheila through the trying time, they have to deal with neighbors, cultural norms and getting to the bottom of a potentially mythological mystery.’

santa clarita

  • No more doing this separately. From now on, we fuck everything up together.
  • Sometimes you do shit you never expected for the people you love.

Okay, this might a little too chick flick for some but I actually enjoyed this series. My mom and I finished the 2 seasons in 1 day, this playing in the background while we keep our christmas decors. ❤

Let’s just take a moment and give Joel Hammond the praise and the ‘BEST HUSBAND’ award that he completely deserves. Right? C’mon. If this ever happened to me, I will not be able to sleep beside my wife. I’d have both of my eyes open, waiting for her to attack me. But this, Joel has been accepting everything relatively easy!! He has been providing her with food, buying groceries, plotting ways to kill people to feed her wife! He is even willing to go to prison! Man, we all need a Joel in our lives. — the perfect crime partner. ❤ AND, He has the looks. ❤

Also, I love how this is just a light watch. The family is witty and quirky enough. The daughter and the best friend is equally entertaining. Notice how the deputy’s face, Anne is annoying – just as her character is. This might seem ‘corny’ to me at first as how all zombie movies is to me but I’m glad I gave this one a chance. 🙂

P.S. I will be waiting for the third season. ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: State of Play

IMDB: When a congressional aide is killed, a Washington D.C. journalist starts investigating the case involving the congressman, his old college friend.

d9d1571d6be1823c3bfa1eae8664f58d-state-of-play-1024

I’m going to warn you that this will be a spoiler:

Sonia Baker, the head researcher of congressman was killed by an unidentified man. The congressman and his team is investigating a company, Pointcorp that is said to gain billions if the contract was finalized. During a hearing, the congressman was seen crying about the death of Sonia Baker, who is apparently — his mistress. Cal, an old friend of the congressman and Della are both journalists who started investigating the case.

What really happened? Pointcorp planted Sonia Baker in the congressman’s team to be a spy and tell them everything. But months after her assignment, she fell in love and she stopped giving information to Pointcorp. Since then, they have been harassing her and calling her nonstop. So the congressman became jealous and hired an assassin who he once saved his life to monitor, follow and report to him. Apparently, this assassin hated pointcorp and killed Sonia Baker without the congressman’s authorization.

One part of the movie tackles journalism. I think it’s important to have independent newspapers that seeks to know the truth, investigate on an issue may it be politicians or the government.

I love how there are twists as the story unfolds. Any movie recommendations for me? ❤

MOVIE REVIEW: Netflix Movies

Recently, I joined the bandwagon in maximizing Netflix membership by first …. watching several Netflix originals. I’m not going to bore you with details or spoil it for you (though most them I’m sure you’ve watched already).

To all the boys I’ve loved before

4/5 since the lead star is an asian girl (credits to crazy rich asians for letting me notice this one detail). & Hell—ooo Noah! ❤

to all the boys

The kissing booth

3/5 Story is a bit too simple and predictable. It’s supposed to be a 2/5 but then again, throw in some cute boy and an additional star appears. 😀 Haha. I’ve said this time and again — I want a guy bestfriend too!

the kissing boothh

#Realityhigh

3/5 Sure, it tackles how teenage or high school life sucks for nerdy and geeky kids which, I think should be taken seriously. People or kids should be aware that their actions have certain consequences. Bullying has a negative side effect to the victim that one can carry until one is an adult. It damages your self esteem, ego, self confidence and self value.

Sierra Burgess is a loser

4/5 Noah Centineo ladies & gentlemen!! ❤ But this deserves a 4/5 since the lead is all brains — and poetry-intelligence is on a different level of intelligence. ❤

When we first met

3/5 What a twissttt! This tells me that we should not focus on what we want so much. Because sometimes, there’s something really better God has planned for you. Simple. Let it be. ❤

when we first met

Set it up

4/5 Love the story line and did I mention Charlie’s Angel Lucy Liu is back? ❤ Love herrrrr. and the You are slob (all the negative things) but I still love you point is absolutely adorbs! ❤ ❤

set it up

Irreplaceable you

2/5 This is just plain sad. 😦 I will not be in any universe be able to do what the girlfriend was trying to do here. and I don’t even want to think about it too.

Irreplaceable You

Bright

3/5 Intriguing and very futuristic! Though I wasn’t able to finish this one because I fell asleep. I wouldn’t mind finishing this tho.

Like Father

3/5 Love the lead actress and the story line but the movie is a bit dragging. It’s a type of movie you wouldn’t watch over and over again.

like father

Alex Strangelove

3/5 The coming out story of a confused kid. They should make more of this. I like the generic story behind the movie but the movie itself, the scenes  was not that interesting.

I’ll keep you posted for more. 🙂

TV SHOW REVIEW: Billions

This may as well be my second favorite show next to Suits in their own room for brains and ego genre. I am not being overly dramatic but if you haven’t watched the show, you better fucking start now.. Why am I hooked?

  • There’s a twist in every episode. (May it be Chuck’s betrayal to his bestfriend or Axe’s lie to his wife, firing of Bryan or the betrayal of Taylor – like one thing happens one after the other..
  • Like One big ball of ego is running the show
  • A ton of testosterone floating in every scene.
  • Ben Kim’s elevator dance
  • Seeing that there’s a strong female lead character who only uses words to rebuild a man
  • Learning a thing or two such as Catherine the Great and horse penises or the matador perspective.
  • Because ultimately, who doesn’t want to learn about wealth and power?
  • Or Lara’s principle to teach her children a life not ruled by money
  • And heck, it’s in New York City!
  • How can you even choose between Axe and Chuck? No? Because you can’t! But I’m secretly rooting for Axe anyway.

20westworld-recap-slide-AD1F-articleLarge

Some good ‘ol lines from the big ball of penises:

  • What’s the point of having FUCK YOU MONEY if you never say FUCK YOU?
  • When I pull a deal off the table, I leave Nagasaki behind
  • The enemy worse than a dangerous man with unlimited resources is one without nothing to lose
  • Whenever you can, put a company in your mouth
  • The best way to bond with someone isn’t doing a favor, it’s asking for one.
  • You don’t have to outswim the shark. You just have to outswim the guy you’re scuba diving with
  • What we do has consequences, intended and unintended. The decisions we make, the actions we bring, have weight.
  • I like nightmares. When I wake up. They leave me deeply valuing my reality
  • Become anti fragile or die.
  • The fact that you can’t fully understand that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. It just means you haven’t gone beyond your own limits.
  • We all mask certain emotions. Bjorn Borg did. Eventually it will end up costing you everything
  • You were wrong. Im not human. Im a machine. Im a fucking terminator.
  • Only people with money forget about money
  • They may be cheering now. But believe me they are dying to boo.
  • Nobody leaves a negotiation happy.
  • Only a fool doesn’t look at the downside but only a coward allows it to dissuade him from that which he knows he must do.
  • But either way, GET OFF MY DICK..
  • The great never sacrifice the important for the urgent.
  • Hate is nature’s most perfect energy source. It’s endlessly renewable.

I may have to admit it – I think the character of axe is insanely hot. Brains and being a douche? Oh yes Sir! ❤
